In November of each year, Calhoun City Schools and Gordon County Schools conduct an annual food drive. Each school collects food for one week. Roughly 85% of all food utilized at the VAC is donated during the annual Fired Up Food Drive.
First Responders Food Drive Sets New Record
The Voluntary Action Center is excited to share the success of the 2025 First Responders Food Drive Competition, held July 1–31. Thanks to the dedication of Gordon County’s fire, police, EMS, and public safety teams, along with the generosity of our community, this year’s drive brought in a record-breaking 42,642 items for the VAC Food Pantry.
The Calhoun City Police Department claimed first place with 28,422 items donated, followed by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office and Gordon County 911. Together, every agency played a vital role in ensuring local families, children, and seniors will have access to essential food and supplies.
This annual tradition combines service with friendly rivalry, and while one team takes home the trophy, every department is a true champion for the community.
The VAC extends heartfelt thanks to all participating departments and to every community member who contributed to this outstanding effort.
Food drives are more than just collection events—they’re a lifeline for those facing food insecurity. They empower communities, strengthen social ties, and ensure that no one goes hungry. So, whether you’re donating a can of beans or organizing a food drive, know that your contribution makes a real difference!
